【Closed】Aesthetics of Horror: Junji Ito’s Exhibition (Hong Kong)

Junji Ito is a renowned manga artist known for his horror comics, which are a favourite of many readers. In 2017, a Junji Ito Exhibition was tailored exclusively for Hong Kong fans. The exhibition showcased Ito’s signature aesthetics of horror and oppression, which he creates using peculiar sketched lines and carefully crafted complex scenes.

The exhibition featured 10 original manuscripts from Fragments of Horror, providing visitors with an opportunity to see Ito’s work up close. It also utilized authorized AR technology to bring comic characters and scenes to life, allowing visitors to experience over 10 scenes from comics such as Spiral, Tomie, Soichi, and Lovesick Dead like never before.

One of the highlights of the exhibition was a rare glimpse into Ito’s personal workspace, which attempted to reveal the creative processes behind his work. Additionally, for the first time ever, visitors were able to have their faces photographed into Hanging Balloons with the authorized themed photo booths, creating a scary and memorable experience.

In conclusion, the Junji Ito Exhibition was a must-visit destination for horror comic fans in Hong Kong. The exhibition showcased Ito’s classic works and provided visitors with a rare glimpse into Ito’s creative processes. While the exhibition ended in February 2017, it may still sweep across other places, so keep an eye out for future events to experience the thrilling world of Junji Ito’s horror comics.
