Originally, the Vulture first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #2 (May 1963) and was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. They wanted the villain to be heavy-set and based on actor Sydney Greenstreet. Indeed, I have never liked this character as I thought he was too old to be the villain. Besides, I could not bear to see a Spider-Man as a youngster was “bullying” an elderly. However, the outlook in the movie was totally different from the past.
Adrian Toomes played by Michael Keaton, chose to be a criminal after he lost his livelihood and took on the identity of Vulture. In addition, he equipped himself with a flying exo-suit created from the Chitauri technology. Although that suit was terrifying, I felt that Vulture was like a businessman rather than a villain. Tony Stark did the same weapons’ business with Iron Man’s suit, right? The main differences were Adrian Toomes was a working-class guy who working hard to feed his wife and daughter.
Since Michael Keaton has played Batman and Birdman, he played very well as the character of Vulture. He became one of my favourites now.
