I have mentioned a toy street in Hong Kong called Tai Yuen Street before (see here). Coincidently, there is a Toy Street in Taipei called Taiyuan Road. The Chinese wording in “太原” is exactly the same as Hong Kong.
Old toy street near Taipei Main Station
Taiyuan Road is an old toy street with her history. Many parents in childhood have been there to buy toys. Same as Tai Yuen Street in Hong Kong, Toy Street in Taipei is near Taipei Main Station which is convenient to go. There are few time-honoured toy stores there, such as Pom Pom Toy Store and DD Toy Town. The price is still competitive compared to the Department store in Taiwan. Therefore, some stores were still jam-packed with customers sometimes.
Indeed, I was really excited with the amazing coincidence of two toy street have the same Chinese name, so I had the same expectation to be there as Tai Yuen Street in Hong Kong. However, I was wrong. They could not be compared. I was disappointed that there were too little toys stores in a street which is double longer than Tai Yuen Street. That’s not just I think so. Objectively, searching Tai Yuen Street (Hong Kong) and Taiyuan Road (Taipei) in google, the former shows more information and positive comments.
All in all, I believe that Taiyuan Road as an old toy street has her historical meaning in Taiwan. In addition, you can still feel the humanities in those old toys stores. There may be a good place for parents and kids. But personally, there is not my top option for buying toys in Taipei.
